My Battlestar Galactica Theory 3

Ok, having finally seen the last few episodes of BSG, I now doubt my theory that Dee is the last Cylon. When I said that, I was thinking that the Final Fifth would be revealed mid-season, and the arrival at Earth would occur toward the end. But the reverse is true, which puts ever more pressure on the revelation of the Fifth. Dee being the Fifth is just not astounding enough. It repeats the dynamic of Tory, Sam, and Galen being Cylons. We’ve had enough of that. There needs to be some new twist.

It looks like the Fifth might be hanging out on Earth, so s/he could be a dead character we haven’t been considering thus far. Perhaps Billy. That would be cool.

I still really like Thomas’s theory that Starbuck is a hybrid, and that her mom was so bitter and abusive because of some Cylon love affair in her past. So what if Starbuck’s walking around the burnt-up Earth and runs into her father? “Dad, what are you doing here?” “I’m a Cylon, kiddo, and you’re a half-breed.”

I really dig my friend Mordicai’s theory that the Fifth is Baltar, not because he IS a Cylon, but because the Cylons liked him so much they decided to pattern one of their models after him. That’s really inventive, and that would make Baltar (if we think that the Final Fifth is orchestrating this whole business of getting the humans to Earth and making them buddies with the Cylons) both the destroyer and savior of mankind. But, I don’t know…wouldn’t such a revelation be funny? I mean, I like funny, and hurrah, Jane Espenson, for bring it back to BSG with the awesome “Hub” episode. But the revelation of the Fifth should have some gravitas to it, and Baltar can never seriously pull that off.

Well, whatever happens, I just want one thing: a Kara/Leoben romance. Gods, am I sick of Anders and Lee.

I really need to start, but now that they’ve backed up, we keep waiting for the “perfect” time to start. It is never perfect!

p.s. to the post:

Also, wasn’t Billy there when Starbuck put the arrow of Athena in that temple on Kobol, and they saw the constellations around Earth? Maybe that’s how he figured out where Earth is, if he is indeed there and responsible for the fleet’s arrival.

But, then again, it seems like the Final Five are not normal Cylons, since Tigh can age. So maybe they wouldn’t be able to download when dead, even before the big Resurrection hub got blown up.

Huh & huh. Okay, I’m all caught up. Billy is possible. I still think Zarak is possible on account of him being an actor from the old show. I like the “wandering” post-apocalyptic lonely cylon theory…I still kind of think there should be a bunch of “final fives” living on earth. Cylon Mad Max! I’d like my Baltar theory to be true, but I think I’m just more clever than the show.
