My Battlestar Galactica Theory II
Previously, I wrote a post about why I think Anastasia Dualla (Dee) is the final cylon. I’ve heard some other theories, and the only other one I like is the thought that Tom Zarek is the cylon (proposed by my friend Stephanie). Last night, I had dinner with some friends from high school (some of whom I hadn’t seen since 1993!) and one of them, Chris, reminded me that Leoben told the president that “Adama is a cylon.” He pointed out that this accusation could indeed by true if we consider the fact that Dee IS an Adama, having married into the family. Verrrry interesting.
I can’t buy the possibility that Lee Adama is the cylon, though I know that’s been bruited about. Logically, I suppose Lee could be a hybrid (anybody could be one, and my money says that Starbuck IS one. Why else was her mother so abusive, and so convinced that Kara had a special destiny?). But there’s no logical way he’s a cylon, unless cylons captured Bill Adama, his wife, and son Zac and rewired their brains to think that Lee was their natural born son. Or unless we discover that cylons grow from baby size to grown-ups, and Lee was some sort of changeling. But there’s no evidence that cylons are anything other than built adults.
I’m hoping to see some romance between Starbuck and Leoben. That would be fraught.
The reason I’m nattering on about BSG is that I’m rather nervous. I’m in LA for Book Expo of America, and I’m giving a presentation at the American Booksellers for Children’s New Voices Luncheon. I’ve had my breakfast, I’ve posted about BSG, and now I can’t avoid what I have to do: squelch my anxiety. Easier said than done.

Okay, WAIT. Disclosure: I have the last three episodes still on my DVR, having been too wedding-busy to watch them. That being said:
I think Earth is populated by the “Final Five.”
I don’t think Starbuck is.
I think that the hallucinatory 6 & Baltar & Leoben are all “Spirits of Light” a la the original BSG. I think they MIGHT be the “Lords of Kobol” aka the Greek Gods. I think the Cylons might be based on them.
I think Baltar IS NOT a cylon but that the final cylon IS Baltar. As in, they liked him so much, they made copies.
Whoa…your Baltar theory is FASCINATING. I love it.
Haven’t seen the original BSG, and so can’t comment on the Spirits of the Light.
There’s no way Starbuck is a cylon. But I still think she could be a hybrid like Hera and Nicky.
Oh, HYBRID is a good call. Shit, I’m still behind.
