I’m baaaaaack! (I’d add more exclamation points but they tend not to show up on screen when i do.) Did you miss me? probably not… anyways, ON WITH THE COMMENT!

AHHH! IT’S AMAZING! I can NOT believe it! Who does your covers? they’re… breath-taking. That’s a good word for them. absolutely astounding. The cover art is what first got me interested in the cabinet of wonders when we were “speed dating” books in the library (That’s when you look at a book for a couple minutes and then check out another book for a few minutes and continue to switch for however long you’re going…).

UGH! October is too far away! What am I supposed to do until then? (You don’t actually have to answer that.)

Hahaha… look! I started a revolution of thirteen-year-old repliers! hmm… i feel appreciated :) .

Speaking of emoticons… look it’s a cave man! I:G

Bye for now! -j

julia_is_awesomefulness

Whoa! my colon-close-parinthesis happy face actually turned into a happy face! SWEET!

:) :) :) :) :)
(‘cause you know I have to try it now)

Marie

Yes, Julia, I missed you! Thanks so much for the enthusiasm, and for liking the covers. David Frankland does them, and I think (no bias here, of course) that he’s one of the best cover artists out there.

I have never seen a cave man emoticon before.

I don’t know if the book will actually come out in October…the last I heard, it was September, but I could be wrong. Either way, it’s a long time from now—for me, too. But I hope you’ll think it worth the wait.

susan

WOW!! These are the best covers! I’m a huge fan, and am just as excited about another book in this series. Maybe these fantastic covers will encourage my young reluctant reader. Sep/Oct is worth the wait, and summer reading means re-reading 1 and 2! Keep up the GREAT WORK!

Marie

Thanks, Susan! I hope the covers DO encourage your reluctant reader!

Rachael

I think your covers are breath taking! My favorite cover is the one for the second book though. I’m dying to get my hands on the third book, I can not wait. Why mist it take so long for books to come out? I can reed a book a day and they expect me to wait days, week, months, years even! At least the book I’m writing is keeping my busy. But anyway, I love the covers ;)

Ina

This is lovely! Congratulations!
I have just discovered your books and am absolutely memorized.
I am sooo looking forward to maaaaany more!

Marie

Thank you so much, Ina and Rachel!

As for why it takes so long for books to come out…part of it is that the editing process takes a while. I have two rounds of edits before it goes to copyediting, and then there are some little edits after that. And the publisher needs to figure out which list it best belongs with, how to market it, etc., and a cover needs to be designed…

Kevin

When is this book ou?

Kevin

I mean, out?

Kevin

:)

Kevin

By the way, the cover is breathtaking

Teresa Kubalek

As I was leaning over the edge of a roof, sanding the weathered eaves of my home, for what must have been 17 hours at least, I had time to ponder life. Several thoughts occupied my time: “Falling 20 feet could hurt.” “I wonder how much blood would flow from a head wound of that magnitude?” “Hmm, I need to weed that corner by the fence.” “Has Petra’s father really been turned into a Gray Man?”…and on, and on.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the Kronos Chronicles and anxiously await the next. They are definitely books I will keep in my personal library. Being Czech myself, I am thrilled to find books with magic set in Old Prague.
I’ll be laying stones for a pathway this summer and I am certain the adventures of Petra, Neel, Tomik and Astrophil will keep my mind happily entertained. Many thanks and well done.

Marie

Thanks, Kevin! The book will be out October 25th of this year.

And thank you, too, Teresa! I’m glad you like the books, and happy gardening!

Alas, there will be no fourth book. I know, it’s a little sad to end with this third book. But the story just naturally ends there, and I have a lot of ideas for other books to write. I’m sorry!

Heyy Maria i just adore your books and their covers. You are my most favorite author. It’s a shame that there is only gonna be just three books. :P
Someday they will make a movie based on this . Hey Maria do you think they’ll make a movie. They just have to. =)

Marie

Thank you, Ava! My email is mariekrutkoski@gmail.com . I would be happy if you wrote to me! There won’t be a fourth book, though, I’m sorry to say. The series ends after Book 3.

Hi Fae! I’m so glad you like my books. I’m not sure if a movie will be made based on the series….I think that would be nice.

Arlen

I LOVE your series! The books are AWESOME! And, they are ver creative. I don’t think there is a book out there that is even close to what you have come up with.
Thanks for being a great writer!

Arlen

Plus, the book looks awesome.
:)

Marie

Thanks, Arlen! I really appreciate your kind words!

Dear Avery and Hadrian,

The Jewel of the Kalderash will be out in October of this year, probably October 25. Thank you both for your excitement, and I’m impressed, Hadrian, that you read the books so quickly!

Jl Johnson

Soooo excited. Can’t hardly wait!

Fae Pax

Hello . I come to your website almost every single time i touch the computer waiting for a new journal entry . Anyways earlier i asked if they were making a movie based on your AMAZING book series, well i kinda wanna act as Petra even the chances are 1 in a thousand. So i would like to ask you if you are considering to make a movie, can you make Petra an audition to people whos never acted on a real movie before? You dont have to but its a request. Keep up the GREAT work Mrs.Rutkoski! :-) PS if you think this is a complaint it isnt! And if you think im acting Rude tell me.

Marie

Thanks, JI!

Fae, this is very sweet of you, and of course you are not rude! If the books are ever made into movies, I almost certainly have no control over the casting. Authors rarely do.

And I’m sorry I haven’t posted any new journal entries lately. I’m swept up in writing a new novel, and hope to finish it before the end of summer (and I also had to edit my fourth novel, The Shadow Society, which is a YA book separate from the Kronos Chronicles).

victoria

i love your books im only 10 but when i was nine i entered a contest and the cabinet of wonders was in it i remembered the book so well that my team and i won first place! right know im barely starting to read the celestial globe :) im loving it! favorite author: Marie Rutkoski.

Marie

Congratulations, Victoria! I hope you like The Celestial Globe. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm.

Fae Pax

Today Is September 11 just 44 More days from now Before the Book comes out!:-D
I am Also excited about the new book to your series, the shadow society i bet its really fun to read just like the Kronos Chronicles, Maybe even better. Im so exicited;-D;-);-D
I hope you Make a new journal entry. i like it when you post new stuff.:-D

Fae Pax

they didnt turn to happy faces o well

Madison

Hi Marie!

I finished The Cabinet of Wonders and The Celestial Globe. I loved them both! I can’t wait until the third book comes out. I was hoping it would be an endlesss series, I just love your books! I’m looking forward to October 25.

In the second book, I had a really soft spot for Kit. I didn’t know he would betray Petra, sadly he did.
Will Kit be in the third book?

Marie

Hi Pax,

I know, I should totally write a new journal entry! I’ve been working on a new book, though, which is why I’ve done so little with this site for so long. But now that I’ve finished the first draft of the book, I think I’ll have time to turn back to my blog. Thanks for being so excited about The Jewel of the Kalderash and The Shadow Society!

Hi Madison,

Thank you so much! It would be fun to write an endless series, but I feel happy with the way the third book ends. I sometimes toy with the idea of writing a spin-off book, and if I do, it will probably be about Kit.

Although I can’t answer your question about whether he’ll be in the third book, I will say that I have a soft spot for him, too! I think he was someone who made a terrible mistake but will learn from it, and become a better person.

Emmanuelle

I LLLLOOOOVVVEEEEDDDD it. I’m just really sad that Petra made her choice.
Are you going to continue the books or not because if you do, you should make her some how be the only one ever to have their powers come back and then she can fence (with Kit) again. Plus I think that Neel should get his own tin animal as well as Tommik. Also, I think that the new king should turn evil but not his sister (i forget their names-sorry)…
Anyway, I think your one of the best writers out there and thanks for making these great books. And PLEASE don’t stop writing the Chronos chronicles because they’re like the only good things I read.
I agree with Madison that it should be an endless series.
I’m really sorry if i’m asking to much. I was just brainstorming. You are probably thinking i’m crazy, but i get that alot, so don’t worry. But yeah :)
Thanks again.

Emmanuelle

Are the Vatra real? I looked it up but couln’t find anything.

Marie

Thank you, Emmanuelle!

I’m sorry, but JEWEL is the last book in the series. I’m pretty sure there won’t be any more, but I’m working on some other things. I have a YA book called The Shadow Society that will be published this fall, and it’s about a girl who doesn’t know she’s not human until a mysterious boy arrives at her high school.

The Vatra isn’t real. I made it up!
