On the Mend
So, a lot of vitamins, orange juice, Tylenol, and sleep later, I feel halfway human. Also, I remembered a great way to soothe a sore throat: hard candy! And tomorrow, while a teaching day, will be an easy teaching day. Why? I’m screening Mean Girls for one of my two classes. It’s for educational purposes. Really.
I made a few New Year’s resolutions for 2008: never to smoke another cigarette again, even socially; to have better posture; and to be more organized. So far, I’ve only managed to do the first, which was fairly easy as I was never a real smoker anyway. But now I find myself making, hmm, New Spring resolutions, and one of them is to attend as many concerts as I like. I recently went to two: Goldfrapp and Feist. I missed almost all of Goldfrapp, but got to hear a bluegrass “Ooh La La” and a really awesome version of “Strict Machine” with an intro that lasted forever. Next night was Feist, who is a warm, friendly performer. The light show was really twee, though: it felt like an advertisement for Anthropologie. Yet I loved the fingerpainted sea and sailboat for “Honey Honey.” Lots of people were cuddling in the audience, and Ms. Feist made us whistle like birds and sing like a choir. I love it when singers boss me around!
Thomas and I just finished watching a wonderful episode of Doctor Who set in 1599, Shakespeare’s day. And, oh, did I giggle with every coy Renaissance (and JK Rowling) reference. I said to Thomas, “I think that if I went back in time and met Shakespeare, I’d have to kiss him, whether he had smelly breath or not.”
“You’d be crazy not to,” Thomas replied.
Time for bed. And there’s a fly in the apartment! Sophie’s favorite. The cat huntress is on the prowl.
